Grab the tissues, because Rumer Willis just shared a sweet photo of — and penned the most heartfelt note for — her dad Bruce Willis, and it’s sure to bring on the waterworks!
In the photo, Bruce is in grandpa mode, holding Rumer’s daughter Louetta “Lou” Isley. The Die Hard star wore a button-down shirt with a ball cap, as he held the 2-month-old in his arms. Lou is in a pretty blue summer dress, and the duo are standing out by the pool. Our hearts can’t take the pure sweetness!

“Fathers to the old and new,” the Hidden Exposure actress addressed her post. She also wrote about the experience of her dad holding her daughter. “Seeing my father hold my daughter today was something I will treasure for the rest of my life,” Rumer wrote. “His sweetness and love for her was so pure and beautiful.”
She went on, “Papa I’m so lucky to have you and so is Lou. Thank you for being the silliest, most loving, coolest Daddio a girl could ask for. Best Girl Dad in the game….” Are you crying yet?
Rumer also shared some words for her boyfriend, Derek Richard Thomas. “@derekrichardthomas Happy 1st Father’s Day,” she said. “Thank you for building a beautiful garden for Lou to play in and eat from. 🌱 Thank you for filling the house with music for her to hear 🎶 Thank you for all the late night diaper changes and silly faces.”
“I’m so grateful our girl has a papa that loves her so much and someone so goofy and weird so she knows that’s ok for her to be too,” Rumer continued. “Thank you for the greatest girl I could imagine in my wildest dreams. We love you 🧡.”
Bruce Willis Has Frontotemporal Dementia
The Sixth Sense star was diagnosed with aphasia in spring 2022, and the disease progressed to frontotemporal dementia a year later.
“Our family wanted to start by expressing our deepest gratitude for the incredible outpouring of love, support and wonderful stories we have all received since sharing Bruce’s original diagnosis,” the family wrote in a joint statement posted on Instagram at the time. “In the spirit of that, we wanted to give you an update about our beloved husband, father and friend since we now have a deeper understanding of what he is experiencing.”
They went on, “Since we announced Bruce’s diagnosis of aphasia in spring 2022, Bruce’s condition has progressed and we now have a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD). Unfortunately, challenges with communication are just one symptom of the disease Bruce faces. While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis.”
Making Special Memories
Because of this serious medical diagnosis, the moment between Bruce and Lou was even more special for Rumer.
Many people commented on the precious photo. One person wrote, “Look at her looking up at your father. ❤️❤️”
“That second picture when she looks at her Grandad that’s the one – totally amazing and doesn’t even know how much the world loves him 😍,” another said.
One person noticed, “It almost seems like, in the first picture your father is filing the feeling of holding her, to his memory, whereas in the second one, your daughter is filing his face, to her memory! God bless them both!”
Actress Nikki Reed commented, “This is too sweet❤️.”
Bruce is dad to Evelyn, 9, and Mabel, 11, with wife Emma Heming Wilis and Rumer, 34, Scout, 31, and Tallulah, 29, with ex-wife Demi Moore.
On Father’s Day, Moore wrote a tribute to Willis. “Forever grateful to you BW for giving me these three beautiful girls. We love our #girldad. Happy Father’s Day!”
Heming Willis shared her own messsge to her husband. “Father’s Day is a time I get to reflect on my deep appreciation and respect I have for Bruce as I watch him father our little ones. Where it might not be ‘conventional,’ what he’s teaching them will span generations. Unconditional love, kindness, strength, compassion, patience, generosity, resilience. Happy Father’s Day to the greatest dad I know, who will forever be the gift that keeps giving within our family 💞.”
