This has partly driven the surge in Covid rates, as Brits may have been unaware they were spreading the disease. Here are the three distinctive rashes associated with the Omicron variant.

Researchers have tracked the variation of symptoms between the Delta and Omicron variants.
They have found a growing number of people are developing a rash after they contract the Omicron strain.
Three types of rash have now been associated with the virus.
One has been compared to a prickly heat rash. It usually covers small areas and although it can appear anywhere on the body, it is commonly found on hands, feet and elbows.
This rash is bumpy in appearance and is itchy. It can last for days or even weeks.
Another type of rash appears as raised bumps on the skin and has been compared to a hives rash.
The third type of rash that has been associated with Omicron has been compared to chilblains.
This rash produces purple or red sore patches that can stick out like little bumps on this skin.
These have often been found by younger people and aren’t thought to be itchy, unlike the other rashes.
While these rashes alone may not be a definite sign that you have contracted Covid, it is worth taking a test to be on the safe side.
What are the symptoms of Omicron?
Previously, the main symptoms associated with Covid were a loss of taste or smell, a persistent cough and a high temperature.
Although these are still the official symptoms of the virus, the new Omicron variant is thought to produce more cold-like symptoms.
Often those who contract the Omicron strain report a sore throat, runny nose or headaches.
Other Covid symptoms include:
Aches and pains
Diarrhoea
Conjunctivitis (sore, red eyes)
NHS England said these symptoms are less common and recommend you only need to get tested if you also have at least one of the main symptoms.
