Chronic fatigue syndrome, also known as myalgic encephalomyelitis, refers to a long-term condition with a wide range of symptoms. 

As its name suggests, the “most common” sign is extreme tiredness, according to the NHS.

Apart from feeling very fatigued, the condition can also spur on four sleep problems.

The health service explains that many people with chronic fatigue syndrome also struggle with sleeping, including the following signs.

1.Not feeling refreshed after sleeping

Perhaps the most disappointing outcome of shut-eye is waking up and not feeling refreshed despite having a full night.

Unfortunately, people with chronic fatigue syndrome often feel like they have not had a proper good night’s rest.

Worryingly, this tell-tale sign can still be evident even if you’ve had many hours of sleep.

2.Waking up during sleep

Another uncomfortable sign that can strike during the night is constantly waking up during slumber.

Furthermore, patients with the condition may also find that they often wake up too early in the morning, the Sleep Health Foundation adds.

3.Feeling stiff, tired or like you have flu when waking up

Another tell-tale sign is waking up stiff or feeling like you have the flu.

You might experience chills, night sweats, sore throat, headaches or muscle pain, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention explains.

4.Feeling very tired and sleepy during the day

The last sleep problem patients may experience is feeling very fatigued and sleepy during the day.

The NHS urges seeing a GP if you think you may have chronic fatigue syndrome to ensure you get a correct diagnosis, as symptoms are often similar to other health problems.
