Dolly Parton health: Singer secretly underwent surgery after cancer scare

Dolly Parton, 73, has been entertaining country music fans for decades. The god mother of Miley Cyrus and a musical legend in her own right, the superstar has won an impressive number of accolades and forged herself as an icon of our time. Dolly had began struggling with eating anything other than soft foods and according to the National Enquirer, could only eat soft food. This prompted the singer to research what her condition could be and feared it might be cancer.

Dolly chose to undergo preventative surgery to eliminate the risk of developing cancer in the future.

Dolly believed she was at risk of developing oesophageal cancer.

The singer researched the condition and knew that without the surgery and treatment, developing the cancer was a reality for her.

Dolly was reportedly worried about causing family and friends undue concern and chose to secretly undergo the operation without informing anyone.

What is oesophageal cancer?

The NHS said: “Oesophageal cancer is a type of cancer affecting the food pipe, the long tube that carries food from the throat to the stomach.

“It mainly affects people in their 60s and 70s and is more common in men than women.

“Oesophageal cancer does not usually cause any symptoms in the early stages when the tumour is small.

“It’s only when it gets bigger that symptoms tend to develop.”

Symptoms of oesophageal cancer:

Difficulty swallowing

Persistent indigestion or heartburn

Bringing up food soon after eating

Loss of appetite and weight loss

Pain or discomfort in your upper tummy, chest or back

  • Coronavirus symptoms: Pain in this area could be a warning

What causes oesophageal cancer?

The NHS said: “The exact cause of oesophageal cancer is unknown, but the following things can increase your risk.

“Having persistent acid reflux known as gastro-oesophageal reflux disease or GORD.

“Other causes could include smoking, drinking too much alcohol over many years, being overweight, having an unhealthy diet that’s low in fruit and vegetables.

“Stopping smoking, cutting down on alcohol, losing weight and having a healthy diet may help reduce your risk of developing oesophageal cancer.”

Dolly has made a full recovery and back in great health.

Sadly, her famous singer partner for the global hit “Islands in the stream” Kenny Rogers recently passed away.

Rogers “passed away peacefully at home from natural causes under the care of hospice and surrounded by his family,” it was said in a statement.

Kenny was 81-years old and famed for hits including The Gambler and Cowards of The Country.
